King's Biography

The Moroccan monarchy is one of the oldest in the world. Founded twelve centuries ago, it guarantees the national unity and territorial integrity of the country. Attached to its traditional foundations, it is also engaged in modernization.
His majesty King Mohammad VI who became king July 30, 1999 is “Amir Al Mouminine,” commander of believers, supreme representative of the nation, symbol of its unity, guarantor of the state continuation. He makes sure that Islam, constitution, rights and liberties of citizens are respected.
His majesty King Mohammed VI belongs to the Alaouites family, originally from the Yanboo An Nakhil, a small oasis of the Arabian coast, on the Red Sea. Direct descendent of the prohphet of Islam, Mohammed (PBUH), through his daughter Fatima Zohra (PBUH). The royal family settled in Sijilmassa in the south of Morocco in the middle of the 13th century. His majesty, King Mohammed VI is the 23rd king of the Alaouite Dynasty.

His Majesty the King Mohamed VI, son of his late Majesty king Hassan II was born in Rabat.
1981
His Majesty received his high school diploma.
1985
The then crown prince sidi Mohamed received his bachelor degree in Law at the University of Rabat.
1987
He receives his first certificate in political studies with honors.
July 1988
The then crown prince sidi Mohamed receives with honors his second certificate of political studies.
In order to complete his education and practice the rules and principles of law learned in the university, his late majesty, King Hassan II, decides to send him in November 1988 to Brussels to do an internship with Mr. Jacques Delors, President of the Commission of the European Economic Communities.
The first official mission outside of the country of the then crown prince was in April 6, 1974, when he represented his father at a religious mass in honor of the late French President Georges Pompidou at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
December 22, 1979
The then crown prince is elected Honorary President of the Mediterranean Social-Cultural Association.
July 1980
He visited many African countries and met with the presidents, Leopold Sedar Sen and delivered personal messages from the late King Hassan II.
March 1982
He is nominated President of the Organization Committee of the 9th Mediterranean Games in Casablanca.
March 1983
He presides a Moroccan Delegation to the VII Summit of the Non-Aligned in New Delhi and gave an important speech that outlined the position of Morocco regarding many international issues.
September 1983
He presides a Moroccan Delegation to the meeting of the O.U.A. Committee regarding the Sahara in Addis Abeba.
October 1983
He presides a Moroccan Delegation to the 10th French African Conference in Vittel.
April 1985
He is nominated by his father King Hassan II as Coordinator of the Royal Army Forces, Services, and Offices.
1986-1987
The then crown prince visited Saudi Arabia and Japan.
1989
He represented his father King Hassan II to the funerals of Japan’s Emperor Hiro Hito.
1993
He receives a Doctorate in Law with Honors at the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in France.
April 1994
He presides the G.A.T.T. (General Agreement of Traffic and Trade) in Marrakech.
May 1994
He participated at the United Nations 50th Anniversary Commemoration in Geneva.
July 1994
He is promoted to the rank of Division General.
April 1996
He conducts in Paris the closing session of the “Relations between Europe and Morocco” seminar.
December 1996
in New York he inaugurates the Moroccan-American Commerce and Investment Councils Office.
1997
He represents his father King Hassan II at the United Nations Extraordinary Session on “Earth Summit +5.”
July 23, 1999
